Hi, It’s Morio. Three months have passed in 2024. How fast!
I have been explaining the feeding structure of our high-precision, high-speed coiling machine, SPC50. This is the fourth installment, focusing on the oil bath. Last time, I described the helical gears that transmit rotation to the upper and lower feeding shafts from the motor & the reducer, highlighting their high load capacity and maintenance characteristics. This time, let me introduce the oil bath, a component that can be considered a complement to the helical gears to enhance their functionality.
The oil bath, quite literally, involves immersing gears in a bath of lubricating oil. Using the oil bath offers four main advantages:
1. Continuous Lubrication:
・By eliminating the need for manual lubrication, continuous oiling reduces unevenness and significantly decreases friction and wear on parts.
2. Cooling Effect:
・Lubricating oil absorbs heat and disperses it away from the parts, preventing overheating of the parts and machine to maintain performance.
3. Anti-Corrosion and Anti-Rust Effect:
・The lubricating oil forms a protective layer over the metal surfaces, preventing direct contact of water and oxygen with the metal and reducing the risk of rust and corrosion.
4. Cleansing Action:
・The oil helps remove dirt and foreign particles from the surfaces of the parts.
However, to maximize these benefits, various considerations regarding the structure of the oil bath itself are necessary, including how the gears are immersed, ensuring proper oil distribution, preventing leaks, controlling temperature rise, and managing oil levels. Therefore, the SPC50 adopts an own-designed oil bath. Especially, since the wire feeding shafts move up and down when pressurizing the feed rollers, our engineers carefully designed the oil bath.

Furthermore, it uses a type of oil that excels in lubrication, prevents temperature rise, offers oxidation stability, thermal stability, separates from water or water-soluble cutting oil, and prevents rust.
Of course, lubrication is not limited to just the feeding gear section. Oil lubrication and cleaning are significant allies for the performance and longevity of machine and components. We kindly ask all users to ensure appropriate lubrication and cleaning of the machine.
