Shedding Old Pine Needles

As November arrives, nature slowly changes its colors, transitioning quietly from autumn to winter. For pine trees, it’s the season of shedding old needles and welcoming new ones.

Pine trees, being evergreen, maintain their green leaves throughout the year. However, when old needles are replaced by new ones, if old needles remain, it can be difficult for new shoots to grow. So sometimes, old needles are pruned manually, a practice known as “needle thinning.”

“Shedding old pine needles” reminds us of the beauty of transformation and the act of passing from the old to the new. During this season, we can feel that we are part of the past and the future, and that growth and change are intertwined, just like the pine trees.
